Everything Else

Once we have cut out things we don’t really need (reduce), reused whatever we can, recycled all the easy stuff; the next challenge is to find a way of recycling anything left over.

Almost everything could be recycled, from concrete to food; there is usually someone who can recycle it into something useful.

The biggest challenge for recyclers is to get enough of the same clean stuff in the right place without spending huge amounts of energy or money getting it there.

Mixed plastic is a good example of something that can be recycled but sometimes not as straightforward as it could be. Plastic is very light, especially carrier bags and films so it can take as much energy collecting it as would be saved by recycling it!

If you have something that you would like to recycle, check with your local council to see if there are any local options.
