Are you an amazing author? Can you write a creative, compelling, curious 500 word short story about waste?

Our Waste Education Team are running a short story competition for children aged 7-14 in the Winter/Spring. You can enter if you are a child aged between 7 and 14 and living in Devon (not Torbay or Plymouth). Stories should be about a topic on rubbish or waste, including plastic pollution, reducing waste, composting, reusing, recycling or even Bonster the Hungry Monster.

The competition will be open for entries from the 24th of January up to the closing date of 28th March. There will be two categories (KS2/KS3). Stories can be submitted either by email to recycle@devon.gov.uk or by post to a Waste Education Officer at Devon County Council. The postal address is

The winners will receive a book token for £50, while runners-up will get a £10 book token. All winners and runners up will get a reusable Recycle Devon goody bag. The winners may have the chance to have their story published on Recycle Devon social media channels.
