Are you an amazing author? Can you write a creative, compelling, curious 500 word short story about waste? Illustrations such as a story board alongside the story are welcomed.
The Short Story Competition 2025 is now live! You can enter if you are a child aged between 7 and 14 and living in Devon (excluding the unitary authorities of Torbay and Plymouth). Stories should be about a topic on rubbish or waste, including plastic pollution, reducing waste, composting, reusing, recycling or even Bonster the Hungry Monster.

The competition will be open for entries from the 26th of September 2024 up to the closing date of 22nd July 2025. There will be two categories (KS2/KS3). Stories can be submitted either by email. Please include the name of the school you are attending if not home-schooled. The email top send entries to is recycle@devon.gov.uk or by post to a Waste Education Officer at Devon County Council. The winners will receive a book token for £50, while runners-up will get a £10 book token. All winners and runners up will get a reusable Recycle Devon goody bag. The winners may have the chance to have their story published on Recycle Devon social media channels.
