My recycling adventure

By Oscar

Age 9

My name is Oscar I’m 9 years old
And this is a story that has to be told.
It’s not about dragons or treasure or space.
Its about saving the earth are special place.

It all started one day when I went to the park,
And saw plastic bottles scattered near the bark.
Crisp bags flying like strange little kites,
And cans in the bushes it gave me a fright.

I asked my mum” why is it all such a mess.”
“ She said it’s rubbish that need to be addressed.”
“Can’t they bin it or recycle it right,”
She smiled and said” that’s how we put up a fight.”

So I made it my mission my daily quest,
To sort and recycle and do my best.
We’ve got bins at home green, brown and blue,
And now I know just what to do.

Brown is compost and general waste,
Cardboard for blue that’s the place.
Green is recycling that’s how it’s done,
If we carry on like this then I think we’ve one.

Once a week the truck comes past,
If we don’t recycle the damage will last.
He picks up our cardboard, paper and plastic,
And helps are world become fantastic.

Plastic in the ocean isn’t ideal,
It could hurt a whale, tortoise or seal.
You shouldn’t leave plastic on the beach,
Please take it home so it’s out of reach.

Evan at school I keep an eye out,
If someone litters I’ll give them a shout.
“hey that belongs in the recycling bin,”
It’s not being bossy its helping win.

It’s not about where stuff should go,
It’s about what happens when we say no.
To tossing things were they don’t belong,
Because little wrongs add up so strong.

Sometimes I get grumpy I’m still a kid,
But then I remember what I just did.
By sorting rubbish and helping out,
I’m making a difference with out a doubt.

Evan dads join in with the game,
He used to toss things (yes I gave him shame.)
Now he’s recycling like me and mum,
An even Oscar junior ( my bear) joins the fun.

Charity shops are recycling too,
It’s second hand but it’s new to you.
You look in a shop for something you like,
It could be a ball, book or bike.

Another form of recycling is WEEE,
Waste electrical and electronic equipment disposed of carefully.
Phones, computers, irons and lights,
It’s a really cool prosses when it’s done right.

composting is a magic trick ,
It turns fruit and veg into soil that’s rich.
If your soil has nutrients, the worms will come,
They will wriggle all about and have lots of fun.

I hope I inspired you with my special story,
A small change every day will give us some glory.
Now I’m telling you with a cheeky grin,
Keep recycling and maybe we’ll win.
