Landfill sites, energy from waste plants and household waste recycling centres must be monitored regularly with inspections, to check they are being run properly and within legal limits. Inspections can be made either by the local authority or by the Environment Agency. In the UK many of these sites are run as contracts by the local authorities, so there is a certain amount of contract management at work here too.
